It’s difficult to believe that 2022 is almost upon us. As is the case every year, we can expect to see some completely new design trends, along with those of yesteryear making a comeback.
While much of the design trends for next year mimic the 70’s, there is a difference; the colours, patterns, and textures of that decade can be brought into your home, without them being ‘too much – while some of you reading this article may be too young to remember, there are those of us who never want to see burnt orange wall-to-ceiling linoleum in the kitchen, or bright pink bathtubs, hand basins, and matching toilets again in our lifetime!
That 70’s Look
Shades of orange and greens are set to return with a bang, along with geometric-patterned floors. You can incorporate these retro looks into your home by adding velvet accessories to your existing furniture or even reupholstering a 70’s style chair as a statement piece in a room. We have a feeling that flea markets and antique fairs are going to see their fair share of bargain hunters.
Colour Trends
Aside from those mentioned previously, additional colour trends for 2022 include shades of pink, blue, cream, and brown. Simple white walls and furniture in neutral hues are a great base for your updated 2022 home. With bright colours often being seasonal, we recommend incorporating them with interchangeable pieces. For example, you could paint picture frames in different shades of pink to create a statement or make use of coloured glass vases to display flowers.
Green Living
With an increased focus on sustainability in almost every aspect of our daily lives, it isn’t surprising that interior design is also following suit. Nurseries are seeing an increase in sales of pot plants as people return to having natural elements, rather than plastic plants adorning their homes.
There has also been a substantial increase in the use of sustainable resources, such as glass, in interior design. Some homeowners have even gone as far as having architects design completely eco-friendly homes for them, wanting to ensure that their living space is as wonderful as can possibly be.
More Time in the Garden
There isn’t much clarity as to what people’s movements will be, so many trends indicate that homeowners will spend more time outdoors, albeit in their gardens. Aside from adding log cabins to serve as an extension of the home into the garden, you can expect to see furniture made from rope or other macrame items, combined with bohemian style accessories in 2022.
Rounded Comfort
Soft, rounded edge furniture will also be high on the 2022 home décor lists. To some, it brings back the nostalgia of a bygone era, while to others, it simply feels more homely than the stark right-angled furniture which has been popular until now.
The key to keeping your home modern is to stay abreast of trends and because sustainability for future generations is so important, wherever possible, to reinvent what you already have. Sometimes, a lick of paint on a door frame, or a strategically placed living plant, or a mirror being hung at an angle can be all that you need to update a room.
